Benfleet Youth FC 1  Rayleigh Boys YFC  4      Played 25th March 2007

Rayleigh Boys YFC 'A' had a hard fought victory over Benfleet Youth FC on Sunday played at the Woodside Park, Benfleet  After a bright opening spell played on a very uneven surface RBYFC found themselves 1-0 down after ten minutes scored completely against the run of play when some slack marking allowed the home side to take the lead. The goal seemed to disrupt RBYFC style of play and they found that they could not play the passing game which when executed transforms the team into a much tighter unit and it was not until one minute from half time that a neat through ball from Callum Edwards found Jack McCarthy racing clear from the half way line to coolly slot home in his usual manner past the BYFC 'keeper. H-T 1-1.

The half time 'pep' talk from the manager & coaches seemed to have worked as the boys set about the opposition in a much sounder frame of mind and after some intense pressure from RBYFC James H fired home after a quite superb cross from Edward Hines. It was all one way traffic now and RBYFC thought they had increased their lead to 3-1 when Jack McC took advantage of a loose ball to ram home what he thought was his 2nd goal of the day but the referee having already signalled the goal then decided to consult with his assistant after the home players complained that the ball had crossed the line for a goal kick during part of the move. The referee then bizarrely awarded a goal kick instead of a goal after the 'linesman' confirmed that the ball went out of play despite the fact that he himself did not bother to raise his flag to indicate this, a decision that even bemused the home's teams backroom staff. RBYFC were not to be put off by the inept decision and soon confirmed their superiority when Charlie Scholtka scored after the ball fell to him after some frenetic play in the penalty box following corner and it was not to long before Jack McC did score his second of the day after a shot from Ellis Lander the ball dropped to him and he made no mistake from five yards. After that BYFC never really threatened the RBYFC goal because of some excellent defending interceptions from Joseph Ginzler-Ring & Callum who had dropped into the back four to enable other players the chance to move forward.

MoM Charlie Scholtka

Congratulations are extended to Trinity on becoming worthy champions of the U-11 division

Rayleigh Boys  YFC U-11. 4   Benfleet Villa FC U-11. 3     18th March 2007

After an enforced gap of five weeks RBYFC finally got back to the playing action with an exiting win over Benfleet Villa FC at Ashingdon FC after the venue was switched owing to Grove Park being unavailable because of the lack of ground staff.

Defending in extremely windy conditions RBYFC found themselves behind after 10mins but they managed to hold out for a further 10mins to be 2-0 down but managed to pull one back when Danny Cooper scored a fine goal following an excellent corner taken by James H H-T 1-2

It was now RBYFC turn to take advantage of the gale force conditions but all did not go according plan. After having an early well taken 'goal' by Callum Edwards ruled out for offside it was not until well into the second half that RBYFC equalised when Callum scored another excellent volley similar to the one he scored only five weeks ago against Beech Utd. RBYFC felt they now had the upper hand and were pressing hard for the winner but disaster struck with only five minutes remaining on the clock, BVFC managed a rare excursion into the oppositions half and in what seemed like an eternity managed to scrape home a goal which they quite rightly believed would be the winner.

Most teams would have given up by now as the referee was only playing time added on but RBYFC are made of sterner stuff. After some neat play on the right the ball fell to Ellis Lander whose well driven shot was saved by the BV 'keeper who could only parry it to the quickly advancing Danny Cooper to drill home his second of the match. RBYFC sensed there could not be much time left and so it proved as the BV 'keeper took what was virtually the last kick off the game, the wind again held up the ball and fell to James H who quickly found Ellis Lander (playing despite a 'stomach' upset) who rifled to ball into the net and for the third time that day the ball went actually through the net! That did stop Ellis and the team setting of in wild celebrations to cap a brilliant result for the boys. It is worth noting that this is the fourth time this season the team has come back from 2 – 0 deficits to record victory’s FT 4 - 3.  MoM's Danny Cooper & Ellis Lander who both had to play positions not familiar to themselves.

After the match it was learnt that subsequent results elsewhere have guaranteed RAYLEIGH BOYS 'A' will definitely finish as Runners Up in Division 'B' of the U-11's. Well done to all the boys and the manager & coaches for all the hard work this season but we still have two matches to play, so enjoy!

Sun 4th Feb 2007.                                                                   Beech Utd 3 Rayleigh Boys 3

Following on from their back to form 5-2 victory last week over Ashingdon ‘C’, Rayleigh Boys were held to a three all draw on an extremely muddy pitch at Eversley Leisure Centre, Pitsea.

RB took a 15 SECOND lead when a neat through ball by Jack McCarthy found Edward Hine whose delicate shot completely deceived the home goalkeeper, for as he bent down to gather the ball, it suddenly shot up and went in off his shins! Nethertheless Edward (and George) wheeled away in delight as he celebrated his second first minute goal in consecutive games! After some stout defending by the away defence RB went into a 2-0 lead following good approach play by Edward & Daniel Nobes the ball found its way to Callum Edwards who made no mistake in rifling the ball into the net. Beech Utd soon hit back when a well taken lob gave goalkeeper Daniel Waggon no chance but RB soon restored their two goal advantage with an excellent individual goal by Jack McC. After attempting a overhead kick that few upwards and finding himself flat on his back with the ball descending down on him he managed to manoeuvre himself ‘crab like’, he actually headed the ball much to the crowds amusement. Not content with these acrobatics he then hauled himself off the ground and set off on ‘Ryan Giggs’ type run holding off a strong challenge from an opposing defender before slotting the ball in between the near post and the ‘keeper. H-T 1 – 3.

The home made a substitution at half-time when their real goalkeeper turned up and was soon pressed into action with some fine saves and was much the busier of the two keepers. Beech Utd clawed their way back into the game with a well taken goal much against the run of play as had the goals been in the first half. That seemed to spur them on and another excellent lob saw them draw level. The match was now end to end with both side having chances to grab the winner but a heavy pitch was beginning to take its toll and both side were glad to hear the referee’s final whistle with honours even. F-T 3-3
